Do all computers have Windows Media Player? What is the email SMTP server? What if I cannot connect and see anything? What is port forwarding? Is this legal? Do I need to hide my webcam? What is the motion detector sensitivity setting? Can I have the software notify more than one person by email? How many people can watch a computer at the same time? What kind of webcam can I use? Just about any kind. Most webcams are not expensive anymore. If you purchased a webcam, you will need to install the software that came with the webcam so the computer will recognize it. Then do the camera setup for the webcam. Do all computers have Windows Media Player? Yes. You can click Start and will probably find the Windows Media Player in the programs list. Once it is opened, click Open URL and enter the URL provided. What is the email SMTP server? If you have an email account with your internet service provider such as Comcast or others, they can tell you what the settings would be for your SMTP server. For Comcast it is normally smtp.comcast.net. What if I cannot connect and see anything? Do you have a router with your cable modem? If so, make sure you have port forwarding setup for the port selected in the software. Make sure Windows is not blocking the port also. What is port forwarding? If you do not have a router of any kind and your computer is connected straight to the modem, you do not have to worry about this. Otherwise, you need to setup port forwarding with your router. I cannot explain exactly how to do it for your router but basically what needs to happen is the router will redirect any data to the correct computer based on the port setting. In the router setting it will be set to send all data on port #### to the computer selected which is normally done by the IP address. If you need help with this, try asking someone that could do this for you or assist with it. I would hate for you to not use this great software just because you did not get this setup. Is this legal? Yes as long as you are using the software on your own computer. Do I need to hide my webcam? Only if you need to. Most people would not pay any attention to the webcam but you can always hide it if needed. If the cable is not long enough for use, then buy a usb extension cable from your local store. What is the motion detector sensitivity setting? This will adjust how sensitive it is until it is alerted for motion. Play around with the setting until you get it right. 30 is the default setting. Can I have the software notify more than one person by email? Yes. You can enter as many people as you want to be notified by email. How many people can watch a computer at the same time? As many as your computer can handle based on its memory and resources. Also consider the internet connection it is using. The more people connected at once, the slower the video response may be.
