What is the email SMTP server? What if I cannot connect and see anything? Is this legal? Do I need to hide my webcam? What is the motion detector sensitivity setting? Can I have the software notify more than one person by email? How many people can watch a computer at the same time? How fast are the webcam images being refreshed? Can I save an image of the webcam while watching it live? The image is not changing while viewing it - why? What do most people watch with their webcam? What kind of webcam can I use? Just about any kind. Most webcams are not expensive anymore. If you purchased a webcam, you will need to install the software that came with the webcam so the computer will recognize it. In our software click the Camera tab to select the camera. You will be able to preview the camera in our software. What is the email SMTP server? If you have an email account with your internet service provider such as Comcast or others, they can tell you what the settings would be for your SMTP server. For Comcast it is normally smtp.comcast.net. Another option is to use GMail which is by Google. You can sign up for a free email account through Google. Then you can configure the email settings for GMail. Click the Help button in the Email tab of the program for a tutorial for setting this up. What if I cannot connect and see anything? You need to follow a few steps to make sure everything is running properly. Make sure the computer with the webcam is connected to the internet when you try viewing the webcam. Is the software running? Look for the program icon in the Windows system tray. If so, click on it and login to the software. Once in the software, click the Preview Camera tab and see if you can view the webcam there. If not, check the settings under the Camera tab. If you can view the webcam, make sure the computer is not blocking the program by a firewall or antivirus program. Is this legal? Yes as long as you are using the software on your own computer. Do I need to hide my webcam? Only if you need to. Most people would not pay any attention to the webcam but you can always hide it if needed. If the cable is not long enough for use, then buy a usb extension cable from your local store. What is the motion detector sensitivity setting? This will adjust how sensitive it is until it is alerted for motion. Play around with the setting until you get it right. 30 is the default setting. Can I have the software notify more than one person by email? Yes. You can enter as many people as you want to be notified by email. How many people can watch a computer at the same time? As many as your computer can handle based on its memory and resources. Also consider the internet connection it is using. The more people connected at once, the slower the video response may be. How fast are the webcam images being refreshed? The software will upload each webcam image as fast as possible. Many things can determine the speed of this process such as your internet speed, the speed of the computer, the internet connection from where you are watching the webcam from, etc. This is not streaming video but it is fast enough to watch and see live. Can I save an image of the webcam while watching it live? Yes. You can save the image just like you would any other image from a web browser. Right-click the mouse over the image and select Same Image As from the popup menu. If you are using a phone or other device, they may be different. When testing on a Samsung smart phone, I held the button down with the mouse on the image. It popped up a menu with the Save Image As option. The image is not changing while viewing it - why? The computer with the webcam may be offline at this time. When the computer goes offline, it does not upload any new images. So you may see the last image that was uploaded. A good way to determine when the image you see was uploaded is by selecting to place the date and time on the image through the software. Click the Camera tab and check the box to place a date and time stamp on the image. You will see the time change as is it refreshed on the server. Otherwise, you will see the last date and time it was updated. What do most people watch with their webcam? You can point your camera to any location. Some people will point the webcam out their window to see who comes to their house. Others may use it to watch their family or babysitter while away from home. It can be used for security at home or even your work place. Some people also use it to watch their pet while they are at work or away from home.
